MATILDA BAY SKATE 29/06/2008 8:30:00 AM

A very pleasant skate for all levels of skaters. From the cafe either head south to the Tawarri Restaurant along the river and back again or you can head northeast towards the Narrows Bridge and back. Experienced skaters may well want to do the Kings Park skate on the way back but you may need Andrew Curran or someone else who has already done the skate to show you the way through. Whatever time you get back just hang around at the cafe and meet some other skaters or catch up with you mates. Once again you should carry water on these skates as no drinking fountains exist.

Location:
Matilda Bay, Crawley. Meet at the Matilda Bay Cafe on Hackett Drive, Crawley (opposite UWA).

TROY PARK SKATE 5/07/2008 8:30:00 AM

The starting point for this skate is great for Beginners as it is basically four netball courts with black hotmix as the covering. From here we skate east towards the Raffles Hotel which is our ultimate goal. The cycleway is superb for all level skaters until you hit the wooden decking near Heathcote. If you are not a VERY experienced skater either turn back at this point or take your skates off and walk the 200 metre section. We continue the skate all the way to the Raffles Hotel where we turn around and head back. An easier course instead of going this way is to skate west from Troy Park to Point Walter which is only about 3km or so. The full Raffles run would be about 14km round trip. Bring water as there are no water fountains along the way.

Location:
Troy Park, Attadale. Meet at Troy Park carpark on Burke Drive, Attadale. Where the brick clubrooms are. The nearest crossroad reference is Motley Street.

East Perth-Ascot circuit 12/07/2008 8:30:00 AM

From the East Perth playground (Brown St, East Perth) head north along the fantastic pathway that now is joined up all the way to Maylands Golf Course. From there follow pathway past Police Academy, Waterland and Tranby House then keep following pathway alongside road for about 400m where pathway heads down a great big hill towards Garrett Road Bridge. Cross Garrett Road Bridge and into Ascot Waters Real Estate development. Head through the estate and find the cycleway on the other side heading east towards Gt Eastern Hwy. Follow this great pathway along the river towards the city, careful over the 5m wooden slat bridge, and up the 'concrete pathway' hill. It's really obvious!! Head along Gt Eastern Hwy to the Farmer Freeway on ramp (heading West). This little burst leads to a great downhill run past Belmont Racecourse then across the Windan Bridge (pedestrian/cycle path) and back into East Perth for a short skate back to the playground. You need to be well skilled for some aspects of this but there are also many easy aspects to the skate. It's worth just walking down the tough bits if you are not skilled enough. It's a long course though so bring water.

Location:
East Perth - Meet at childrens playground at the Swan River end of Brown Street in East Perth.

BURSWOOD SKATE 19/07/2008 8:30:00 AM

The Burswood is a skate for everyone. Beginners can use desolate parts of the carpark to practice on or potter around the fantastic, smooth cycleways surrounding the area. Everything is pretty flat with soft grass runoffs. Advanced skaters can skate north to the Graham Farmer Freeway entrance then follow that over the Windan Bridge and continue through East Perth, over the Causeway and back to the starting point. If you feel good do the Narrows Bridge as well. There are drinking fountains along the way if you dont bring your own water.

Location:
Meet in the carpark at Burswood on its most southern side (Causeway end). There are BBQ's, a toilet block and a kids playground all in that vicinity as well as the outdoor cinema (seasonal).

SCARBOROUGH BEACH SKATE 26/07/2008 8:00:00 AM

A skate for all levels with great cycleways heading south to City Beach and beyond or north to Sorrento Quay which is a little bit tougher. As long as there is not a sea breeze this is one the most beautiful skates around. If we have a sea breeze you can expect to be absolutely stuffed at the end of the skate. Bring your own water as there are no drinking fountains on this run.

Location:
Scarborough Beach. Meet at Scarborough Beach carpark down at the most southern end which is Brighton Road.

MAYLANDS SKATE 2/08/2008 9:30:00 AM

There are really two courses here with the easy Beginners course more or less hugging the perimeter of the lake. The surface is good and flat all the way around. More experienced skaters can follow the new red hotmix pathway that is an outer track that runs right along the golf course fence initially. It then goes past the Police Acadamy, on to Tranby House then follows the roadway for about 500m before heading down a big hill to the Garrett Road Bridge. Once past there head towards the Tonkin Highway Bridge, where you cross the Swan River and head back along the Ascot side of the river, crossing back over the Garrett Road Bridge then back to start. Take some water because there are no water stops along the way.

Location:
Maylands. Meet in the Maylands Golf Course carpark on Swan Bank Road, Maylands.

PINNAROO POINT SKATE 9/08/2008 9:00:00 AM

This is one of the best skates in Perth! The carpark is big and suitable for Beginners to mess around on and even the cycleway paths are very smooth but with a little hill here and there. More experiences skaters will enjoy the fast runs which are really between Mullaloo Beach and Ocean Reef Marina. This latter part of the course involves skating up a number of gradual hills which have some fantastic runoffs. The cycleway now continues to Burns Beach which is just a fantastic run. The whole run is quite long now so bring water as there are no drinking fountains to top you up although there are kiosks at Burns Beach and Mullaloo (but can't guarantee they are always open!!).

Location:
Pinnaroo Pt, Hillarys. Meet in the Pinnaroo Point carpark which is about 2kms north of Sorrento Quay (Hillary's Marina) along West Coast Drive. The carpark is clearly marked.

LEEDERVILLE SKATE 16/08/2008 9:00:00 AM

This is a good fast skate that is not too long. Beginners can practice in the smooth carpark or skate around Lake Monger (not my choice however). More experienced skaters can skate north from the carpark to the Glendalough Train Station overpass and cross the Freeway. Then skate down the ramp and head south right past Leederville commercial area and up to the Graham Farmer Freeway overpass (Fitzgerald Street). The path loops near the church then head back to Leederville and cross the Leederville Train Station overpass, skate along the Freeway section of Lake Monger and back to our starting carpark. Bring water as this course can get quite hot and there are no drinking fountains along the way.

Location:
Lake Monger, Leederville. Meet in the carpark on the corner of Powis Street and the Freeway offramp (north).
